Dashboard Filter Controls
Filter controls can be placed anywhere on a dashboard to filter any chart that uses the data column being filtered. Like the filter modal, filter controls also list formulas in the column selection dropdown.
Qrvey provides a set of filter controls that you can drag and drop onto the dashboard canvas. These controls become available to end users when the page is published or embedded.
Date Picker
Use the date picker to filter multiple columns across datasets. For example, you can filter both hire date and shipped date with one control.
Common Settings
-
Column - The dataset columns used for filtering.
-
Label - Custom filter control label.
-
Operator - Default filtering operation (for example, Equals). Use the dropdown to select which operators are available in Preview and Interaction mode.
- Hide operator - When you select a single operator for a filter, you can select this checkbox to hide the operator dropdown in the displayed filter control.
-
Default Operator - Default operator associated with this filter control. When viewing a component in Interact mode, the component displays this operator. Use the dropdown to change this setting.
-
Date Grouping - Records that exist within dataset columns that are configured as a Date column type can be grouped into common date group buckets. For more information, see Date Grouping.
- Hide date grouping - When you select a single date grouping for a filter, you can select this checkbox to hide the grouping dropdown in the calendar control of the filter.
-
Default Grouping - Default date grouping associated with this filter control. Use the dropdown in the calendar control to change this setting.
-
Filter Applies to - Defines the scope affected by the filter control. For more information, see Scope Behavior in Filters.
-
Min Range - You can define a minimum date for a range in a date column when a user applies the filter to a dashboard. If you leave this value blank, no limits are applied.
-
Max Range - You can define a maximum date for a range in a date column when a user applies the filter to a dashboard. If you leave this value blank, no limits are applied.
Note: If the user enters a value outside the allowed range, it is adjusted to the nearest range limit and the filter is applied with that value, along with a warning that the original value is not allowed.
More Settings
- Hint - Customizes the dropdown hint text.
- Trigger - Sets filtering to start automatically or using a button.
- Button Text - Sets the button text.

Add a Cascade Effect
Multi-select list filters can be chained together to create a cascading effect. Use this feature when hierarchical groups are present and you need one filter value to limit the available choices in the next.
For example, you can link a States filter and a Counties filter to cause the Counties filter to show only the counties that belong to the selected state:
-
Add at least two Multi-select filters to a dashboard page based on two columns of the same dataset.
Verify that a logical hierarchy exists between the selected columns (for example, Country > State or School > Students).
-
In the configuration panel for the second filter, select the Cascade Filter checkbox. When enabled, the values displayed in this list are limited based on selections made in another filter.
-
Define the filter and data column to initiate the cascading filter by selecting a data column from the React to Cascading Column list. The dropdown lists all columns from the same dataset used as filter columns in another Multi-select list on the page.
-
Publish the page or switch to Preview mode to test the filters.
Note: Filter controls do not work in Design mode. You can only interact with them in Preview or Interact mode.
Single-select List
Use a Single-select list to limit users to a single filter value from any dataset used in the dashboard. Users can apply the filter to multiple columns across datasets. The Single-select list supports the same options as the Multi-select list but displays a radio button next to each option instead of a checkbox.
Input Box
Use the Input Box to enable end users to search for text in any selected column. Select Input Box from the list of filter controls in the toolbar, drop it onto the canvas, and resize it as needed. The control consists of a label, an input text box, a dropdown list of operators, and a button to apply the filter and start the search.
You can also define a minimum and maximum range for a column containing numeric or date values when a user applies the filter to a dashboard. If you leave these values blank, no limits are applied.

Scope Behavior in Filters
The scope configuration (Filter applies to) is available for filter controls in a dashboard. The following scopes determine where the filter is applied:
| Scope | Application |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Applies a scope to the entire dashboard. |
| Container | Displayed after a container has been added to the dashboard. Limits scope to elements within a container. |
| Tab | Displayed after a tab has been added to the dashboard. Limits scope to elements within a tab. |
